30th Greek Film Festival

Reporting in from our Santorini studio*, we'd like to draw your attention to our other favourite film festival - the 2025 Greek Film Festival! 

MeccaMedialight are proud supporters of (and developers for) Greek Film Festival, now in its 30th year (and we have partnered the festival for 15 years!). Despite the relatively small program, this festival packs a punch across 6 cities with its amazing selection of films. From absurdist dystopian black comedies to rom-coms to gut-wrenching drama (and occasionally all that at once - hello Yorgos Lanthimos!)

This year’s opening night looks to be a ripper - Kapetan Mihalism based on the book by Nikos Kazantzakis, the great writer, journalist, politician, poet and philosopher.  Lanthimos's unsettling but highly entertaining Dogtooth gets another run, and for the hopeless romantics - Rosa from Smyrna is also on show.  And there's also the director's 2024 cut of Rembetiko - the story of Marika (also from Smyrna) who, in a rare and uncommon story in Greek drama, suffers a life marred by personal tragedy and hardship - although in this story,  she also rises to prominence as an acclaimed rembetiko singer.
